Some Year 8 students wrote some animal stories as part of Book Week activities. Thanks Miss Alice for your assistance. The class also wrote some book reviews of Short-listed books for the School's website.

Mr McKeough's Year 8 class was set a research and design task  work related to the Safari theme. They were to make a travel booklet about a trip to Africa and include information and pictures of African animals. Students worked in the library several periods a week to gather the information they needed. Some really interesting facts were discovered by each student about particlar animals, their habitats and how they survive.

An Ancient Egyptian Burial Chamber was created in the centre of the library thanks to the collection of mummies and colourful friezes made by Ms Cufre's Year 7 History classes.

The next display was also inspired by Ms Cufre.  A fabulous collection of replica weapons were made by Year 8 History students and displayed in the library.

 The principal, Mr Davis, was invited by Ms Cufre to the library to interact with senior students about their Personal Research Tasks. Each student was asked to explain what they had learnt about the topic and they gave an insight into some very interesting aspects of their work.  The variety of topics covered by the students was extensive and the quality of work exceptional. Once again the library was selected as the ideal location for the display.

Other displays have been based on Special Days. These included St Patrick's Day on March 17th when the library was overtaken by the folklore and poetry of the Irish.
Limericks, a style of poetry,  were placed around the library along with shamrocks and leprechauns.

Harmony Day was the day we celebrated the multi-cultural nature of the Australian community. Hundreds of badges in many colours were given to junior students. It was a fun day for all.

Poetry Day followed fairly quickly and this was a chance to have some teachers read some interesting poems to students during lunchtime. Mr Lambkin and Mr Freer used their fabulous voices to encourage students to appreciate different types of poems. The students really appreciated the time these teachers spent sharing their love of poetry.

At Westfields Sports we celebrated Book Week this year with several activities but our main feature was this  mural depicting the safari theme.

Some very enthusiastic Year 7 students devoted time each day during their lunch time to work on the mural. Thanks Cindy, Kathy , Rowena  and various friends for all your effort. All those involved really enjoyed the time creating our masterpiece which showed a scene from the Madagascar movie.

We also painted some colourful panels using the drawing supplied by the Children's Book Council. The library was decorated with balloons and posters, there were word puzzles for students to do, we had guest readers to entertain those in the library at lunch time. A great big 'Thank You" to Mr Lambkin and Mr Gerke from the English faculty.
